February 1, 2012 FISHING REPORT Howdy From Lake Cuyamaca Did you know that if you have ',metal fillings" in your mouth that the magnets on your kitchen refrigerator door constantly pulls you toward it and, as a result, its harder to diet. What "Skid Mark" usually does when she orders food at her favorite restaurant is to tell the waiter that she is ordering a "green salad, broiled boneless-skinless chicken breasts, and almond milk".., then she says to bring .... "lasagna, string pasta with alfredo sauce, garlic bread, and a beer".., so consequently, and in all honesty, she could just call it a mistake The wind here is the big story for the last week with cold east winds making it hard to enjoy a ..... day at the Lake. That's been the + norm. We have had some hearty anglers testing their exposure limits out on the water. We have had sightings of a mountain lion in the area.., and a bobcat took out one of our white geese yesterday. The racoon contingent is visiting nightly around the west shore restrooms, boathouse, trash cans, dumpsters, and tackle shop. And today is the last day of Waterfowl Hunting except for the Junior Waterfowl Hunt this Saturday. Our off season specials are still in effect.., tight lines... Dusty Britches. "Youth" Turkey Hunt Approved For Santa Ysable Preserve The County Board of Supervisors on Wednesday voted 3-2 to approve an annual two-day youth wild turkey hunt in the Santa Ysabel Preserve Supervisors Bill Horn, Dianne Jacob and Greg Cox voted to amend a County ordinance to allow the hunt. Chairman Ron Roberts and Supervisor Pam Slater-Price opposed the action. About a dozen public speakers at the Wednesday Board meeting were also split in their position on the hunt. Supporters, including the three supervisors, characterized the hunt as a positive way for young people to practice a legal hobby under the mentorship if experienced adults. The hunt's limited duration and . small number of participants, along with County staff's plans to set rules and boundaries for the hunt on the 3,800-acre space preserve that has no camp sites or residences, make the hunt a reasonable use of County land, supporters said. Opponents of the hunt, including Slater-Price and Roberts, said it was not appropriate on land that has been set aside for the public to enjoy and to preserve plants and animals. The hunt scheduled for March 23 and 24 for a maximum of 10 youth each day will be organized and supervised by the San Diego Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation. The preserve will be closed to the public during the hunt. The San Diego Chapter of the The Julian News 11 Apple Tree . Realty 2 We Advertise Your Home... I found it in a thrift shop several years ago and want to find out more about it and its possible value. -- Lynn, Sun Tan, Ariz. A: The Lion Hunter bank was patented in 1911, designed by Charles A. Bailey of Cobalt, Conn., and manufactured by J and E Stevens Company, Cromwell, Conn. A coin is placed in front of the cocking device of the gun, when a lever is pressed, the hunter fires, the coin strikes a lion and falls into a receptacle below. If an original, this is quite a valuable bank ranging in value from a low of about $3,000 to a high of $35,000, depending on condition. Be aware that this bank has been reproduced and some of the reproductions have been aged to look old. One of the better references is the "Official Guide to Mechanical Banks" by Dan Morphy, published by House of Collectibles. Q: I have an older fishing reel in its original box. It has a beautiful design. How I can determine its value? -- George, Albuquerque, N.M. A: Many collectors have become hooked on fishing collectibles. The original interest was generated by old lures and some reels and rods. It later expanded to include advertising memorabilia and miscellaneous items. Recent prices include a 1931 catalog from the Shakespeare company, $150; a Heddon Lure, No. 100, $350; a Mitchell reel, model No. 70, $65; and a rare 1931 limited edition of "The Compleat Angler" by Arthur Rackham and Izaak Walton, $3,000. One of the better references is "Fishing Collectibles: Rods, Reels, Creels" by Russell E. Lewis (Krause, $29.99). Q: I have a 1929 Majestic console radio in walnut. Although it has a few scratches, the radio works and it is original. I paid $450 for it at an antique shop several years ago, and wonder if R's worth more than I paid. --Ken, Providence, R.I. A: Your radio currently is valued in the $150 to $200 range. Majestic radios are fairly common and not as desirable with collectors as many of the more popular brands, such as Philco and Zenith.
