As a tasting room dedicated to San Diego county wines, Country !ii = i i iii iii ii~!ii i!ii~ i~ii ii ii i i~ i ~iiiii by Ed Glass county resident who worked for SAIC for several years in graphic design. Prior to opening Country Cellars, she spent six years as the operations and marketing manager for Lenora Winery in Ramona. Her entry into the wine business was preceded by starting her first business, Trezettes Catering, which continues to offer services for parties, weddings, wine pairings, and other events. She currently serves on the board of the San Diego County Vintners Association. Open every Wednesday through Sunday, and holiday Mondays, Country Cellars looks forward to continuing to promote the fine wines and craft beers of this region. New address is 4456 Highway 78-East. Trez Gotfredson, Country Cellars' owner, offers a unique approach to promoting many of the San Diego County vintners, particularly those who do not have an onsite tasting room at their wineries. A typical winery tasting room will showcase their wines only. Country Cellars' goal is to spread the word about local wines not well known due to limited distribution, small volume production, or lack of a major use permit for operating a tasting room. "In San Diego County, it's very difficult to obtain a permit to open a winery tasting room", says Trez. "And, total permit expenses can total $200,000, which discourages the smaller winery owners from pursuing their own tasting room. Our Cellars also promotes wineries that have their own tasting rooms. J. Jenkins in Julian is open only on weekends, and both Hawk Watch and Shadow Mountain from Sunshine Summit enjoy the extra marketing opportunity Trez offers in her business. "It's fun to be able to offer so many different options for fans of local wines," she says. Currently offering tastings from 14 wineries, Country Cellars also provides tastings from six microbreweries, providing up to 20% of the business. As much as 60% of Trez's visitors come from Orange County, reflecting a strong accomplishment for a small business on the road to historic downtown Julian. Music On The Mountain Cici Porter continued from page l to still fantasizing about going back. But in real life, she became a well known part of the San Diego music scene, both as a solo act and front woman for the popular band "Border town." She has released six CD's herself and three more with Bordertown. She is married to Emmy Award winning composer Larry Groupe. She has raised four children, all now grown. She is an accomplished painter and loves getting away to paint at her studio on Palomar Mountain. Her first studio was destroyed in the Witch Fire, but a new one has been built in its place. On top of her other achievements, CiCi made a significant contribution to eradicate child sexual abuse by founding the "Journey to Wholeness Project". Two of her CD's tell the story of her own healing through the songs she wrote as she went through the process. So what's next for CiCi? "Sometimes I think it is high time to disappear into the woods again and become a hermit painter", she writes. "At the same time, I might get back out on the music circuit, quit dying my hair, and become the Amazing Aging Woman. Wouldn't that be a hootP' Don't miss CiCi Porter in concert Tuesday, March 2nd, 6PM at the acoustically blessed Julian Library. Like all Music on the Mountain events, the concert is free.
