What is Useless Rhetoric? They are "a band that plays rhostly original music written by the band members, with a few cover songs thrown in so you'll like us," said Scott West, lead guitarist. Their mission is to help raise funds for various charities. When they play at a venue, all the proceeds are donated to a charity of their choice. On March 19, from 8:00 to midnight, you can help Useless Rhetoric raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society ("LLS") at Bailey BBQ in Julian. The $5 cover charge and any tips/ donations will go directly to LLS. They have played a few venues and have helped raise more than $7,000 for charity. The Artist Of The Month For March Is Rex (Kelley R.) Harrison Born in Los Angeles in 1940, Rex initially was introduced to art through the lens of a camera. For many years he both took photographs and taught photography although his major field was Industrial Technology in which he has a BA from Cal State Long Beach. He was introduced to drawing at Golden West College and Long Beach State but didn't begin watercolor painting until he began taking classes from Carol Ravy in 2008 at Stone Ridge in Warner Springs. Rex credits his wife with pushing him in the direction of painting while he was recuperating from surgery. Rex lives in the Los Tules area at Warner Springs and is an active member of that community. He married his wife, Betty, fifty-one years ago has three children and nine grandchildren. Paintings on display at the Rex Harrison library all month.
