Ben Sulser, District Manager ~,,:..,~ ,,,, ,,N,,,w ............. ~:~:nEn:,l!Jn:~n~: ........... .i 24-month CD from Rabobank County Offers Tax Assistance To Families Services Available Countywide until Mid-April With about four weeks left until the tax filing deadline, the County Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA) is reminding families and individuals that free tax assistance is available to help them claim their Earned-Income Tax Credit (EITC). Low-income families and individuals can have their taxes prepared, at no cost, at more than 70 locations throughout the region. The tax assistance will be provided countywide until mid- April. People should call 2-1-1 to make an appointment. "The County and its many partners are making it easier for people to claim and keep their hard-earned money," said San Diego County Board of Supervisors Chairman Bill Horn. "Getting access to these IRS funds is simple. All you have to do is file an income tax return." The services are part of the annual EITC campaign, which helps San Diego County families and individuals take advantage of the EITC and reduces the amount of money that goes unclaimed each year. Locally, about $77 million go unclaimed each year. Established in 1975, the EITC is the federal government's largest cash assistance program designed to lift low-income families and individuals out of poverty by helping them keep more of their hard-earned wages. In 2003, the San Diego County Board of Supervisors launched a pilot program that provided free tax preparation to low- income workers. The program was expanded countywide the following year. Willie Banks held the World record in the triple jump at 58"11" from 1985 to 1995 and was the American Record holder from 1981 to 1996. He was a member of the 1980, 1984 and 1988 U.S. Olympic teams and was named as Captain of the 1988 team. The Calvin Christian Relays were field events that included High Jump, Discus, Shot Put, Long Jump and Triple Jump. Cameron Gannon won the Boys High Jump at 5'6". Hannah Elliot took 6th in the Girls High Jump, clearing 4'6". Brandon Williams threw the discus 83' 10" for the Eagles and Katie Newgard had a successful day with a throw of 53' 10". In the Boys shot put Brandon Williams threw a 12 pound ball of iron 35' 4". There were no Lady Eagles in the shot put. Ryne Adams jumped 17' 5" in the long jump and Hannah Elliot flew 12' 6". Senior Michael Hatch set a new school record with a 39' 7" triple jump. The previous record was set in 2002 by lan Gannon. Lady Eagles legacy Rowlynda Moretti went 12' 9". The Eagles flew through the foul weather down to the Elmer Runge Memorial Relays at Patrick Henry High School on Saturday, March 19th. Cameron Gannon placed second in the high jump. Joey Rocks and Brandon Williams set personal bests in the shot put. Our Eagles open their 2011 Citrus League season on Thursday, March. 25 on their home track.
