Her lovely caramel coat is easy care, and her bright eyes sparkle with excitement about the new family she can't wait to meet. She has a strong personality and is looking for new owners who can keep up with her, and be the "parents" she has been looking for. If you're looking for a new pal to keep you company on walks, keep you running at the dog park, or just chilling while you watch TV or play on-line, this is your girl. Come ask to meet ID#A1331318 Tag#C733. Nina can be adopted for $69. Lindy is a spayed-lO-years-young black and white feline who came to the shelter as a stray and has been waiting for an entire month for new pet parents. She is an incredibly sweet senior cat that is easy to hold and loves the attention from the staff and volunteers. Lindy would be a wonderful, mellow companion for a senior home who is looking for a lap cat to share their home with. With many wonderful years to share with new pet parents, adopting an elderly pet has many rewards and advantages over their younger, rambunctious counterparts. Lindy can be adopted for the Senior Fee of just $35 and this fee will be waived for Senior Citizens. To meet Lindy ask for IDa A1330766 Tag#C985 All adoption fees include vaccinations, spaying/neutering (upon adoption), a microchip and free Vet visit. Dog fees also include a I year license. Nina and Lindy are at our Central County Shelter, 5480 Gaines Street, San Diego. The Shelter hours are 9:30AM to 5:30PM, Tuesday through Saturday or visit www.sddac.com for more information. Ask Past r Rick France set on banning Muslim niqab in public A battle is shaping up in France over whether fully veiled Muslim women should be banned from appearing on the street, or any other public setting, wearing a niqab or burhka. Mr. Sarkozy, President of France, has said the head-to- toe garment is unwelcomed on French soil. The leader of his party bloc in the National Assembly called it a "negation of life in society." The spokesman for the Socialist opposition condemned the niqab as"a prison for women." The Communist party leader condemned it as an "ambulatory prison." Five months after setting out to ban the burhka, French politicians are divided only over how to implement the ban without violating constitutional guarantees of freedom of expression. Source: Associated Press, summarized by Pastor Rick Ask Pastor Rick ,,. What is a Christian? Many people associate being a Christian with a life-style or behavior such as loving people, helping people, being a good person. Some associate a Christian with religious practices such as church attendance or prayer. Some associate a Christian with what they DON'T do such as abstaining from alcohol, dancing, or other "so called" worldly things. The historic Christian position is as follows: a Christian is a person who has a relationship with God only through Jesus Christ. That relationship is based on God's grace and only by faith. "For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of (human) works, so that no one may boast" (Ephesians 2:8-9 English Standard Version). Letters continued from page 2 textbook at each grade level (9th - 12th) and the teacher materials to accompany it. Ideally, we would like to get all students that attend JHS new English textbooks, but we would like to at least start the process one grade at a time. These new textbooks would last us several years and would put us up-to-date with the rest of the nation's curriculum. Students would be able to complete their homework at home from books that are in excellent condition. My goal is to raise funds by the end of Spring 2010 to purchase at least one grade level of new textbooks and have them for students at the start of next school year (August 2010). I know that it seems like a lot of money, but this is a commendable investment that will last a long time and a quality education for our students is Chef's Corner continued from page 6 cool, herb flavors of dressing elevates baked breasts to a new level. Ranch chicken BAKED CHICKEN BREASTS IN SPICY RANCH DRESSING SAUCE Panko breadcrumbs are made from a light, Japanese-style bread, When used as a coating, Panko breadcrumbs add an extra crunch without deep-frying, making it the perfect coating for baking in the oven or stove-top cooking methods, You can find Panko breadcrumbs in the Asian section of most grocery stores, but regular packaged bread crumbs also will work for this recipe. 2 to 3 pounds (4 to 6 pieces) boneless, skinless chicken breasts 2 tablespoons poultry seasoning 1 1/2 teaspoons salt 2 teaspoons black or mixed peppercorns, freshly ground or finely crushed 1 (16-ounce bottle) Ranch dressing 1 small onion, chopped 2 garlic cloves, minced 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper 2 cups Panko or dried bread crumbs 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese Cooking oil spray 1. It took between 75,000 and 80,000 workers to build the Panama Canal, linking the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans across the Isthmus of Panama. Pop star Prince may be best known for his hit "1999." After playing the song at a New Year's Eve party in 1999, he vowed he would never perform it again. Seven years later, however, unable to escape its perennial popularity, he started including the song in his performances once again. Pope Benedict IX held the office three different times. When the Barbie doll was first introduced in 1959, it was described in The New York Times as a "crushing bomb." So much for early reviews. Since then, more than a billion Barbies have been sold in more than 150 countries. Mattel, the doll's maker, claims that three Barbies are sold every second. It was Britain's Prince Albert who originated the boutonniere. It seems that while they were courting, Queen Victoria offered a small bouquet of flowers to her future husband. Prince Albert used his pocketknife to cut a hole in the lapel of his jacket and put the stems of the bouquet through it. A form of air conditioning existed as far back as ancient Rome. Wealthy citizens had piping installed in the walls of their homes through which water from an aqueduct would circulate, cooling the interior. Thought for the Day: "If you watch a game, it's fun. If you play at it, it's recreation. If you work at it, it's golf."-- Bob Hope (c) 2010 King Features Synd., Inc.
