My name is Carl and I have
epilepsy. I am a local wife and
mother of two. I was diagnosed 2
years ago and my seizures are still
NOT under control. Epilepsy is a
neurological disorder that affects
more than five million Americans
and 50,000 people here in San
Diego. Epilepsy is a disease that
is more common than Multiple
Sclerosis, Parkinson's, ALS (Lou
Gehrig's disease), and Cystic
Fibrosis combined. Epilepsy is
as common as breast cancer
and kills as many people.
On Sunday, April 17th, 2011, I
will be participating in Sharon's
Ride.Run.Walk for Epilepsy. I will
be holding a raffle to raise money
for the Epilepsy Foundation of
San Diego County. Would you
be willing to donate any products
or gift certificates? Would you
be willing to sponsor me? All
donations are tax-deductible
and I can provide the tax ID#
if needed. For any company
donating at least $25 worth, I
will put your company name
or logo on my team banner for
recognition of your donation.
The raffle will be held at
Sizzler Restaurant in Ramona
on Thursday, April 14, 2011 at
7:00 pm. We have everything
from Amusement Park tickets,
restaurants, beauty salons,
campgrounds, and hotels to
fishing bait and tackle, tattoos,
hard apple cider, accounting
services, and trash pickup with
more coming everyday !! Raffle
tickets are on sale now.
This year we honor "SCOTCH"
Scotch was not only my dog.
She was my confidant, my sound
board, my warning system. She
would stop what she was doing
and come lay on the pillow next
to my head. She knew Iwas
having seizures long before I did.
We lost her to a rattlesnake last
year. We all miss and think of
Scotch everyday! I miss her lying
on my feet to keep them warm,
sitting by my head to warn me
of a seizure, and most of all her
undeniable unconditional love!
Check out my website for
information on the event or to
donate money. Please feel free
to contact me either by phone or
email. I sincerely appreciate the
support from you all !

When is a Drug
Illegal?
by Fred Becker
Most parents do not think their
child will ever use drugs. The
surprising fact is that your child
has an 85% chance of using
drugs before the age of 18 and a
1% chance of dying. Moreover,
when your child does use drug
your world will change forever!
We live in a world where drugs
are a way of life. They influence
all of us a variety of ways. Their
use can cause social, emotional,
and physical harm to self, family,
and friends and lead to many
senseless deaths. Drugs can
also relieve pain and stress; treat
symptoms of diseases, and save
lives.
So let's look at some facts:
We all know that drugs such
as heroin, methamphetamines,
cocaine, and LSD are illegal,
and if you are caught using or
possessing these drugs it can be
a felony. But what about other
drugs?
FACT #1: If you live in the city
of San Diego and have a medical
doctor's recommendation (not
a prescription) for marijuana,
you can have 8oz per "qualified"
patient or caregiver, 6 mature
plants or 12 immature plants of
marijuana in your position and

police arrest, but the federal law ~~~~al.l~Wl~l ~tl~ ~at~r'~
enforcement can arrest you.
FACT #2: If you are over the
age of 21, you can legally drink ~tweet~,Tz;ea~; H n o1 i
alcohol. If you are under 21, you II ~llt ~iq~,~rl~/~. p~ll~_IIl Ipl[~
can be arrested and charged with 1-9 '" -c ran -oMm all m ra r'76S-19196
possession, under the influence
and hit with a misdemeanor and
/or fine.
FACT #3: If you are caught,
driving and drinking you are
looking at losing your license and
violation of the law. Same thing
goes for over the counter drugs.
FACT #5: If you use an herbal
substance such as Salvia to get
high it is not against the law.
However, if you mix substances
together in your home to make
GHB (date rape drug or alcohol
replacement drug) it is against
the law.
What effect do drugs, legal
or illegal have on you and your
family? Will your child be a
victim of drug use? Do you know
the warning signs? How do you
how to stop your children from
using drugs?
Please join us on April 131
2011 at 6:00 - 8:00 at Julian
High School for an eye opening
presentation and discussion
of youth drug use in the Julian
community. This presentation
is brought to you by Drug Free
Julian and Julian High School.
