He is a man who has found something more inter- esting than women." - Edgar Wallace "I know I've got a degree. Why does that mean I have to spend my life with intellectuals? I've got a life- saving certificate, but I don't spend my evenings diving for a rubber brick with my pajamas on." - Victoria Wood "I once heard a Californian student in Heidelberg say, in one of his calmest moods, that he would rather decline two drinks than one German adjective." - Mark Twain *** "The subjunctive mood is in its death throes, and the best thing to do is to put it out of its misery as soon as possible." - W. Somerset Maugham "How rare, how precious is frivol- ity! How few writers can prostitute all their powers! They are always implying, 'I am capable of higher things' ." - E.M.
