This years Chamber of Commerce Installation Dinner was moved to April to avoid the blizzards of past years and wouldn't you know it, we got snowed on anyway. This years theme was a Hollywood Red Carpet evening and the start did come out, although most dressed as producers and directors (appropriate for small business entrepreneurs) There was Katherine and Boggey, a Marilyn, Harpo and Groucho Marx, and Spanky from "Our Gang" in attendance. The evening being something of a "Actors Studio" with tinsel and stars glittering in the night. Betty Birdsell prompting the "Supervisor" as she begins her speech. first Toni Menghini, was given her certificate and then Barbee Skinner was presented with hers for serving the Chamber as a volunteer and Julian ambassador for more years than she would admit too. The dinner was a Tri-Tip catered by "Jeremy's On The Hill" and a special dessert of "Baked Volcan" (think baked Alaska). Over 70 members of the Julian business community braved the weather to attend and "Put on The Ritz" for an evening that is always festive and fun. Next year, Betty Birdsell has threated to move the annual affair to June so that weather will not be a factor, the suggestion was made to make it part of the fourth of July parade and put all the board members on floats. We'll have to wait for the next Chamber board meeting to see if that ends up on the editing room floor or not. Awards to members took on the atmosphere of a old fashioned vaudeville comedy. First there was the swearing in of the.current board, an honor reserved for Supervisor Jacob. Playing the role of the Supervisor in Oscar nominated style was Ginger Ranck of Cabbages and Kings, she not only gave a perfect "Supervisors" speech to open the proceedings but was undaunted in her administering the oath to the board members, as much as they tried to make it in to a two reel comedy. Awards were presented to Tracy Turner, Michael Hart, Diana Garrett and Juanita Hayes (of SDG&E) for their community service and support. The award highlights came when "Harpo'(Toni Menghini) embraces Barbee Skinner in congratulations and "Groucho" (Mike Menghini) and Betty Birdsell look on.
