Sorry Bill, but you did say I could write about almost anything! As an author of stories involving alien worlds people sometimes ask me, "What's your opinion Tony? Do you really believe there's intelligent life in the galaxy?" I quickly answer, "No just search on earth, I don't see any intelligent life here so why would there be any elsewhere?" That usually starts things off well, so I immediately apologize, "Okay, okay, I was just joking. But I really don't like telling opinions because we're not talking about facts or science." Even when writing fiction I want my stories to be based on plausible science and facts. So I try to get people to learn. I then ask questions, i usually proceed next with: "Did you know our sun is a star?" Only about half of all Americans know this fact, so don't be embarrassed if you didn't know it. I get replies like, "Wow, I didn't know that all stars were suns, sure is a lot of them out there, huh? Why are they so small? Guess that's because they're far away...always see a bunch of stars out there on a clear night... especially in Julian, wow...they're all suns huh. Really?l" I respond nonchalantly, "Yep, that's a lot of alien suns, isn't it? With the naked eye you can see roughly three thousand ones on a clear night in Julian, maybe more depending on your eyes." I then ask people, "Do you have any idea of how many stars (other. suns) that you can't see CES No Appointments Just Come In Now Available 1[" k ( Certified Animal . Most folks don't know that one unless they study astronomy, but we live in the Milky Way Galaxy, it's a Marriages on the big blob of floating stars. (500 billion galaxies times say 200 billion suns pergalaxy big number!) So how many stars/suns are there out there from an understandable point of view? from some liberal and secular factions, but he remains mistrusted by those who see him as too close to his former boss, Mubarak. The most bitter rivalry emerging in Egypt's presidential campaign pits two candidates with competing visions of Islam and a long-running personal feud. The race between Khairat al- Shater, candidate for the Muslim Brotherhood, and Abdel Moneim Aboul Fotouh, who split from the group last summer, could help define the contest over the next few weeks until the May 23 election day. Mr. Aboul Fotouh's more liberal vision of Islam has long .been at odds with the Brotherhood's conservative old guard. Mr. Fotouh appeals not only to Islamists but also to some liberals who find Moussa unpalatable. Source: The Wall Street Journal and The Daily Star, summarized by Pastor Rick Ask Pastor Rick What is the "Book of Jasher" mentioned in 2rid Samuel 1:187 Because of its name, there are some who believe that a man named Jasher wrote the book. I don't think that is the case here. In the Hebrew text, it is called Ha Yashar. The definite article "Ha" tips us off that this is not a person's name but a modifier for the word "book". The name Jasher means upright, leading some to think that it was a testimonial of heroes of Israel, a national anthology of the faithful ones Book of the Faithful or Book of the Righteous. There are many books mentioned in Scripture; some we know a little about and some we know nothing about other than their mention in the Bible. Here are a few of them (including the Book of Jasher): The Book of Wars of the Lord, Numbers 21:14: The Book of Jasher, Joshua 10:13; The Acts of Solomon, 1st Kings 11:41; The Book Of Gad, 1st Chronicles 29:29; The Book of Nathan, The Prophecy of Ahijah, and The Visions of Iddo, 2nd Chronicles 9:29; The Book of Jehu and The Book of the Kings of Israel, 2nd Chronicles 20:34. Other books are mentioned, some by name and some without a name. You'll find them in the following passages: 1st Samuel 10:25; 1st Kings 4:32-33; 1st Chronicles 9:1; 12:15; 27:24; 2rid Chronicles 12:15; and 33:19. There are some three books still circulating today that purport to be the Book of Jasher. In my studies of it, I have not found reliable evidence that any of them existed before the 1600's. The Book of Jasher, mentioned in the Bible is, in my opinion, is a book that has been lost in history and that, even if a copy of the original be found, should not added to the canonical books we have today. Downtown Julian - Cole Bldg. 2111 Main Street - Up Stairs Scientists estimate that if the whole earth was one big beach of sand, that there are at least as many alien suns are there are grains of sand (probably more). Think about walking around the earth with all those alien suns under your feet. Ouch! Okay, so getting back to alien life. What do alien suns have to do with alien life? On earth, the sun is our energy source. Without it, earth would most likely be a dead frozen ball of ice. But wait. What about alien planets? Are there alien planets? When I was growing up in the 70's and 80's we speculated about alien planets (I didn't speculate--I believed in them), but most people said, "Wow, with all those stars (alien suns), I wonder if any are capable of having planets?" There Were all kinds of detailed scientific analyses done on the topic and I'm sure a lot of Astrophysics break room discussions, but in the end, it took until 1992 to confirm the discovery of the first extrasolar (not earth sun) planets (two found at once). You can go to the Extrasolar Planet Encyclopedia at http://exoplanet. eu to get the latest count (looks like 763 planets discovered as of May 11, 2012). I predict that if man survives, he will discover billions of planets in just our Milky Way galaxy alone. Just a semi-educated guess. So we move on to some other questions. How many of these could support life as we know it? You see the planets can't be too close to their sun (things burn) or too far away (things freeze), but in a habitable zone with a sze similar to earth (for us earthlings to survive the gravity). Scientists are mostly discovering big giant Jupiter like planets (easier to see from afar, no joke) but the various imaging techniques are getting better. Scientists recently discovered Kepler-22b. The average surface temperature there is estimated to be 72F degrees. (Better than the average of 860F from our neighbor Venus). A year on Kepter-22b is 290 earth days. (The time for Kepler-22b to revolve around its alien sun). Okay, so we now_ have discovered an alien planet that could possibly support human life. But does that mea alien life is possible someplace'there or somewhere else? Of course not, just because we found other suns, many like ours (billions) and they probably have billions of planets, with billions probably looking just like ours with water (some most likely having better weather) and some with probably cleaner oceans than earth-- what makes you think there's even a remote chance of alien life? Foolish humans... If you look u p at the beautiful star spangled night sky in Julian, give your neighbor a wave! (If you are interested in more details I did a TV interview on: "Is there Alien Life?" on Truth 2 Power. You can still find it on YouTube). Now for some earthy fun!
