May 23, 2012 Taste Test When migrating goldfinches come to my yard, I put out seed I think they'll like so they keep coming back. I observed for one week to see which seed they preferred: thistle or sun- flower chips. The chips won. Save some money and buy one kind of seed. Don't worry, they'll be back! 2012 King Features Syndicate, Inc. E-mail: birdingbits@cfl.rcom FISHING REPORT Howdy From Lake Cuyamaca The big kick-off for the season is just around the corner... Memorial Day! This is "Dusty Britches","Wet Sox", and "Skid Mark" here to say the days are getting warmer and longer. The crappie bite is still wide open as the following report will attest: The Sheppard family had 4 folks fishin and caught 100 crappie. They spent more time at the cleaning tables than catching fish[ On 5-12-2012 Rick Harrison of Lakeside landed a 4 pound 8 ounce" Florida Strain" large- mouth bass on nightcrawlers at Fletcher Island; Hunter Neuharth of La Jolla brought in another bass weighing in at 9 pounds 6 ounces and 22-1/4" long off the dike area. 8-year old Glenn Hefner of San Diego reeled in a 3 pound trout that was 19-3/4" long as part of his limit using nightcrawlers. Hank Soukup went the distance hooking in to Bass, Trout, and Crappie along the dike and around Fletcher Island. Felix Romero limited with crappie on the "T" dock using trout teasers. We had an L.D.S. group take over the"Lone Pine" camping area. Sean Rodgerson set that up... over 150 campers. We also had Boy Scout Troop #'s 500, 655, and 319 come up and help out with projects around the Lake. For their efforts we provide free camping and, if they want, rental poles to go fishing after their project is done. Its good to see good people do good things. "Skid Mark" had her annual bar-b-q fest on Saturday night... it looked like "Woodstock". We are gearing up for the Memorial Day weekend with a double trout plant from Mt. Lassen... that is 2,000 pounds (with 20% of the planting to be trophy trout from 3 to 8 pounds) on the 23rd of May. We also will have Jess Ranch planting an additional 1,200 pounds (with 15% of the planting will be trophy trout from 3 to 12 pounds).., also on the 23rd of May. And we will be receiving a load from DFG that week. Usually the DFG fish are smaller, but still fun to catch.., holy underwear! We will be loaded with fish when the big "kick-off" weekend gets here. "Wet Sox" had an epiphany the other day. He said that breast enhancements were built-in personal flotation devices(or PFD's). Well, who can argue with that? "Wet Sox" seems to have visions, while the rest of the world wears bi-focals.., he can come up with the most obvious sayings... tight lines... "Dusty Britches" The Lake Cuyamaca Restaurant and grocery store open at 6 AM, serving American and Austrian cuisine, with daily specials. Geocache Trail: Ask the lake staff for details. Activity and fun for the whole family. Nature Walk: The self guided walk is 3 miles around the lake. The trail is open for daily use. 'we Advertise Your Home... ]Everyday Until It's Sold!
