The closely watched vote, at the church's quadrennial convention in Tampa, Fla., came after months of intense lobbying by American Jews, Israelis and Palestinian Christians. After an afternoon of impassioned debate, the delegates overwhelmingly passed a more neutral resolution calling for "positive"investment to encourage economic development "in Palestine." Source: The New York, Times, summarized by Pastor Rick Ask Pastor Rick In Genesis 1:28 God told Adam and Eve to "replenish" the earth. Does that mean that there were people on the earth before Adam and Eve? The Hebrew word in this passage (male'/mala') can mean "to fill" or "to re-fill". Only .the context can help you determine which makes the most sense. There is no implication in Genesis 1:28 that people were on the earth before Adam and Eve. Therefore, fill or populate makes the most sense. Busy isn't the half of it. "The Dance" is a couple of weeks away. Last week's Friday night benefit dinner by the Sons is under the belt. Monday's Memorial Day celebration and. buffet at the Legion will be history by the time this paper hits the streets and the Fourth of July celebration is just around the corner. In addition to the 70'th annual (I said seventy) deep pit barbecue to celebrate the July 4th, the American Legion will be the Grand Marshall(s) of the best small town parade in America this year. Yours truly will be announcing at the parade again this year and if you don't want to hear me sing the praises of this great for Julian organization you can try to tune me out but I'll have a microphone, big speakers, pride in the organization and a big mouth to boot. But let's talk big. "The Dance" is coming together beautifully and it appears the Sons will be making an appearance on a couple of early morning TV shows. The menu is set. Slow cooked Santa Maria style tri-tip. The Sons chef Booshanyan have a secret rub that I can't tell you about or I would have to be killed. But nevertheless it's cooked slowly on an open red oak flame that sears the outside keeping those succulent juices in. There will' also be delicious "cluckin" .... :lrbeque chicken, big hot dogs, gie burgers, ranch beans, coleslaw a great desert table and of course beer, wine, Julian Hard Cider and all manner of soft drinks. The music promises to be the best it has ever been. Frank Mooney the owner of Pro Sound is throwing in this year with a promise of a big full sound that the event has lacked in the past. The headliners are Private Domain who is one of the best Rock n Roll bands San Diego has ever produced. In addition to playing large venues, these guys have scored TV commercials and movies with their original music. Old timers (me included), have no fear, as these guys will be playing a lot of the classics. They'll be playing the day session so try to get there when the gates open at noon. At five themusic goes country with Swingshift. In addition to being great musicians these guys are entertainers with the proof of the pudding being a full lively dance floor when they're on stage. They've all earned their chops playing with some of the great country and rock musicians over the years. They'll play till closing at 10 PM. The music never stops at this event. Some great local musicians will be doing sets between the headliners' breaks and one of the Sons newest members will be handling DJ chores during set ups. The local line-up will be a great blend of Rock n Roll, Country and Americana. The bands will be Wathan, Hwy. 79. Malakai, Jakes Mountain, and Samantha Callahan. While they'll be filling in the headliner's breaks, there's no lack of talent in this group. One thing the Sons are concentrating on this year is to make this truly a family friendly event where kids will have activities just for them so Morn and Dad can chill and get on the dance floor once in a while. Oh and don't forget to tell the kids that the tallest man in the world will be there. This is a big event that takes a lot of hands to stage. The Sons will have lots of bodies out there but there's a bunch of people in this town that help too. There are also many people and groups that have been beneficiaries of the Sons fund raising that are helping too. Between set-up the day before, help with parking, working the kids section, policing trash and certainly the dreadful day of. breaking down and cleaning up the site the day after, there's an awful lot to do.
