Tracking "Special Delivery" O n The Pacific Crest Trail Kindergarten Quilt Benefits Japanese Disaster Relief Elaine Bicanic, K-teacher, Julian Elementary The Kindergarten Quilt Fundraiser for Japan was a terrific success! Ticket sales amounted to $678 and the monies have been donated to the American Red Cross for disaster relief in Japan. The lucky winner of the quilt was announced at the general meeting at Julian Elementary's Open House Night on May 26th. The crowd cheered with delight when the winning name was Domingo Sierra, a beloved and valued member of the Julian Elementary School family. Domingo was equally surprised when he found out he won, as he hadn't bought the ticket, but his wife Deanie had and wrote his name on it hoping his good luck would help win the quilt! There are many people to thank for this successful event. First and foremost, thanks to Sara Munson, my classroom aide and expert quilter, who conceived the idea of using our kindergarten class's artwork to make the quilt for a Japan fundraiser. Thanks also to Merry Jo Rembold for quilting Sara's handiwork, to Cheryll Bakken for making and donating the tickets, to the gals at Julian's Quilts Plus for helping with ticket sales and to Deanie Sierra and Sheryl Lewis for doing the same in the school office. Mrs. B. and Mrs. Munson thank their children for the beautiful artwork. Last but not least many thanks to everyone who supported this fundraiser to make it such a success. After the Cedar Fire in 2003, Julian Elementary received hand crafted stuffed animals for the entire school population from anonymous donors from Japan. We felt lucky to have this opportunity to give back in their time of need.
