Gardeners sharing some of their produce, others devote many hours to support our library. Volcan Mountain Foundation works to preserve the mountain and bring students up there to learn about it. Local organizations raise funds for high school graduates' scholarships and introduce innovative events. Some bring joy and fun to Us with dance and music. There are healers amongst us who offer yoga, acupuncture, chiropractic, family medicine and alternative healing. Julian area businesses contribute goods and funds to the 4th of July parade and for many community needs and events. The list is long. And then there are local folks as well as nationwide who spout hateful and destructive epithets about others. Even though our Constitution supports freedom of speech and the right to disagree with those of different beliefs than our own, these remarks hurt America and breed violence. I am referring to racist epithets and violent-filled hateful comments that do not improve nor promote honest disagreements in solvifi l such national problems as: Immigration, health care, gigantic student loans to pay off, unemployment, much needed public works projects nationwide, the protection Of our environment and open space, climate change, quality education for all and more.
