August 29, 2012 Seed Tips 1. Freeze seed for a full 24 hours to kill bugs, moths and other creepy-crawly things and their eggs. 2. Try safflower seed if you don't want nuisance birds like grackles. 3. Use hulled sunflower hearts or chips to avoid messy hulls and sprouts under your feeders. From Lake Cuyamaca "Skid Mark" and I have been testing the different apple trees around the Lake to see which of them have turned from starch to sugar.....only one way to tell. The water level is down about 2 feet, but we are getting ready for our big event... Remember that the annual "Kids Fish'n in the Pines" derby will be held on Saturday, September 22nd... (the first day of Autumn and the first quarter of the new moon). We plan to stock (4) times before the event. The stocking will start during the week of August 29th and continue up to September 16th... just before the derby depending on water temperature and other conditions. If the water temperature of the Lake is over 74 degrees we take a chance on an adverse affect on the fish being delivered, so the option might be to delay that particular plant.., otherwise we plan to be full of fish (and other things) for the derby. "Skid Mark" represents that in mind and in body. Right now fishing is slow, but the campers are still coming up to enjoy the Lake and what we have to offer. "Wet Sox" has been walking down by the south end of the Lake and reports that the deer are coming down the hillsides to drink out of the Lake daily. We have fishing classes on Saturdays at 10:00 a.m. and guided hikes on Sundays starting at 1:00 p.m. The meteor showers were a show to remember last week. Have you ever shot yourself in the middle finger (under the fingernail) with a finish nail gun while working on your daughter's science project? ...you know, the one she was suppose to do... I have... tight lines... "Dusty Britches". Rodeo Series continued from page 7 a chance to win $45,000 toward any eligible Chrysler Group vehicle-or do both.
