The Last Flings Of Summer Saturday you had the 15th Grape Stomp and the 1st Party at the New Julian Brewery and BBQ, Plus the Cuyamaca Fire BBQI Remembering 9/1 1, A Firsthand Account Local Julian resident, Delynn Ketcherside, will share her story of. being in New York City ten years ago on September 11, 20001 when the fateful terrorist attacks occurred. The visions of the devastation that occurred that day are forever embedded into our memories• September 11 has been declared Patriot's Day, a day we honor and pay tribute to those who lost lives and those who worked so valiantly in their efforts to save lives. Delynn moved, to Julian in 1968 years ago and is a graduate from Julian High School. She is the daughter of Jim and Loretta Ketcherside who own Shadow Mountain Ranch. Her family moved to Julian when her father was hired as the high school superintendent. It was Delynn's goal to make it big as an opera singer, which is why she was in New York City. Blessed with a beautiful soprano voice, Delynn is often a guest soloist at many operas and sings with symphonies• She loves to sing. It brings her peace and joy. After the terrorist attacks, Delynn was unable to keep her job and lost her apartment. She lived with friends and was basically homeless• She says she learned a lot about herself and about the things in life that matter the most. She would like to share her story of survival and recovery from these traumatic events• She encourages all to live life to the fullest and enjoy the people and the beauty in your life. She was requested to sing a song that helped her through the rough times. In addition to celebrating Patriot's Day and hearing a firsthand account of being in NYC on September 11, Ms. Ketcherside will also share a song. The program will be on Saturday, September 10, 2011 at 1 PM at the Julian branch library. The library is located at 1850 Highway 78, .next to the High School. "Buddy" Seifert League-mates Borrego Springs High Rams met our Julian Eagles in a non-league game on Friday night under the lights in beautiful downtown Borrego Springs• And it was hot. But no bugs. The game was an all-out shoot- out and the "funnest" game I've seen in high school football in 40+ years. The game started on a quiet note with the teams and fans holding a minute of silence for former Eagles tackle Nick Ackerman and Sara Rapue who died in a tragic car accident early last Sunday morning. Our Eagles will carry Nick with them for the rest of the season, putting his number on their helmets. The Rams won the coin toss and elected to receive the kick- off. Justin Flores kicked a squibber to the Rams 20 and the ball was returned to the Eagles 48. The Rams offense, lead by Sophomore QB Cody Porter and NCAA Division 1 prospect Senior RB Trevon Webb, picked up 24 yards on the Rams first four plays. The Rams drive was capped by a hard running Webb cutting and turning 24 yards for the Rams first touchdown. Porter made a quick toss into the endzone on the extra point and came away with two. With 2:13 gone in the first quarter their Rams are up by 8• Sr. RB Justin Flores took the Rams kickoff and bulled his way to the Eagles 25 yard line to start the Eagles' first possession. The Rams first pass of the game was incomplete, but Webb .and Porter picked up 9 yards. The Rams are looking at a fourth and one at the Eagles 24. Trevon busts loose for an 8-yard pick up and the first down. He then stampedes for another 16 yards and the second Rams TD. Webb picked up the Rams' second two- and an emotional rollercoaster,,+.point conversion of the game. for the past week. First play from scrimmage, a perfect spiral from QB Savage to Fresh RB Kellen Regalado and the Eagles are 19 yards down the field. Sr• RB Brett Teusch turned and burned for another 14 yards and another Eagles first down. Flores did his best impression of an Abrams tank for another 15 yards to the Rams 26 and another Eagles first down. Savage connected to Regalado for another 9 yards and Josh scrambled for another 4-and the Eagles have landed on the Rams 15• Flores TD run was brought back because of an offensive holding call. That was quickly forgotten when the Savage/Regalado completion for 12 yards brought the Eagles their first TD of the 2011 season. Flores split the uprights with the PAT and the score with 6:20 to go in the first quarter is Borrego 8, Julian 7. Rams Cory Porter couldn't handle Flores' squib and the Rams started on their own 13. Webb picked up the Rams first down on three slices through the Eagles defense• The Rams next play went for -1 yards. Webb scrambled for 10 yards but was a yard short of a first down. Rams FB Mason Chell did what all good fullbacks are supposed to do, ramming his way for 2 yards. The Rams are out at their own 36 with a first down. Two Webb runs, a.first down and the Rams are in Eagles territory. Chell picks up another 2 yards and 5 yards are added by the officials with an inadvertent facemask call on an Eagles defender• The first quarter ends with Eagles Soph DE and LB Flores stuffing Webb just at the line of scrimmage. First quarter score:• Rams 8, Borrego 16, Julian 7. Flores takes the Rams kick at his own 19 AND TAKES IT TO THE HOUSE. No one even touched him! The Eagles PAT goes wide right for naught. With 9:25 to go in the second quarter, it's Borrego 16, Julian 13. Julian squibbed their kickoff to Rams Jr. DL Salvador Rangel, but had 12 guys on the field• The Rams get a first and 5 at their own 45. The Rams get butted by the Eagles for a 2-yard loss on a quick toss to Sr. WR Scott Jones• The Rams lose anther 2 on a fumbled/recovered pitch and lose an additional 5 on a delay of game call by the officials• The Rams go to a "Wildcat" offense and lose another yard• 4th and 15. Web gets off a decent punt to the Eagles 35. Teusch fields the Rams punt at the Eagles 35 and scoots for 22 yards to the Rams 43. The Savage/Regalado connection hooks up for a quick 15 yards and connects with Moniz for another 9 to the Rams 19. Josh picked up the first down on his own with a 6 yard scramble• Flores added another 3 on his up the middle run• First and ten at the Rams 10. Rams defenders flood the Eagles backfield. Jr. WR Tab "Soaring Eagle" Beresford fades to the back corner of the Rams endzone, Josh picks him up on his radar, Tah takes flight and the Eagles score. A fumbled snap and my Eagles miss another PAT. But they're up by 3• Borrego 16. Julian 19! The Eagles enthusiastically boot their kick to the Rams 1, but QB Porter picks it up and returns the ball 99 yards for a Rams score. Webb bUsts in for another 2 pointer and the Rams are up by 5, 24 to 19. The Rams kick is fielded by Moniz on the Eagles 3. Savage quickly picks up 21 yards and the Eagles are moving. Unfortunately on his next play, he gets stripped of the ball and Trevon recovers and takes it to the Eagles 6• Uh oh! Rams FB Chell makes quick work of their possession and squirts in for 6. Webb dives into the endzone for another 2. Rams 32, Eagles 19. Things aren't looking too good for the boys in white. Sr. RB Josh Ernst takes the Rams kick at the Eagles 2 and mauls his.way 55 yards to the Rams 43. The Rams were offsides on the kick, but Eagles refuse the penalty and Josh's run stands• Savage's first pass of-the possession got batted away by a Rams defender. Teusch scrambles for 14 yards and an Eagles first down on the next two plays. Brett picks up another 10 for an apparent first down, but the officials see it differently with offsetting penalties on both teams. The play goes over. An incompletion by Savage, a stuffed 2 yarder by Flores and a scrimmage line tackle on Savage and the Eagles are looking at a 4th and 8 at the Rams 30. The Eagles pass is incomplete and the Rams take over on their own 30 with 17 seconds to go in the half. The Rams take a knee and the lead into halftime. Borrego 32. Julian 19. It's still above 100o when the teams take the field after the half. Josh Ernst takes the. Rams kick at his own 30 and muscles his way to the Eagles 41. Brett steps up and delivers on two runs for 1.6 yards and an Eagles first down at the Rams 45; The Rams defenders key on Flores and stuff him at the line for no gain• Savage scrambles around in the backfield giving Tah enough time to get open in the Rams endzone.
