Jesse bulls through on the short yardage and the Eagles have their first score of the season. Hornets 13, Eagles 6. After the Eagles out-of-bounds kickoff, Calipat and the Eagles exchange 15 yard penalties and the Hornets get off an amazing circus catch 50 yard pass and reception down to the Eagles 15. Two plays later and the Hornets score again. The PAT was good and the Hornets are up 20 to 6. Brett made another outstanding return with a 45 yard tear to midfield and the Eagles closed out the first half. At the half, it's the Calipatria Hornets 20 and the Julian Eagles 6. The second half opened with Julian kicking off, to which Calipat politely responded with a fumble. Julian's ball at the Hornet's 30. On Julian's first play of the second half, Jesse got smashed in the backfield and lost the ball. It was a double loss for the Eagles because Frosh OL Zach Hoyle was hit in the knee and came out of the gamf. Zach and Dennis are 525+ Ibs of high school offensive line and were beginning to work like the O line of Air Coryell. Calipat was working it's way downfield when they fumbled and the Eagles recover at their own 16. The Eagles have the ball and no right tackle, what to do? What to do, indeed! Sr. RB Johnny Hake, all 160 pounds of him, stepped in at the right tackle slot. Johnny is a gamer, to say the least. Johnny will play any position, at any time, and play it well. This young man knows and loves football and plays it with a passion unmatched by most college players and any pro. Julian does a three and out on their possession and gets flagged for 12 on the field on their 4th down punt. Calipat makes quick work of their 27 yard field position and quickly scores on two plays. At the end of the 3rd quarter, it's the Hornets 27 and our Eagles 6. The Eagles take the Hornets kick back to their own 42 and set up there. On the Eagles first play from scrimmage, Rodney jets un-touched up the middle for 58 yards and an Eagles touchdown. The Eagles are coming back with 13 and Calipat has 27. After a good Eagles kick, Calipat throws over the Eagle defense for a 45+ yard pass and run for another Hornets touchdown. Flags go flying all over the field for an excessive celebration by Calipat, an unsportsmanlike conduct on the Eagles and an unsportsmanlike conduct on the Hornets. There's more yellow on the field than on a fleet of school busses. Calipat's extra point sails wide left and the score is now up to 33 for the Hornets and 13 for our Eagles. The Eagles get another good kickoff return and set up at their own 48. Soph RB Clint Southcott spell Rodney and Johnny in the backfield and picks up a first down with two good runs. On the next play, Sr. center Justin Flores gets flagged on an offsides call. Really? An offsides center? It's the officials first game in a year, too. But really, the center offsides, come on now! Clint picks up the penalty yardage fighting his way through heavy traffic and Jesse's batted pass is picked off by an opportunistic Hornet defender with a 20 yard return to the Eagles 48. The Hornets are in good field position until Clint smashes in from the Eagles defense and shakes the San Andreas fault with his backfield tackle of the Hornet's RB. The Hornets pick up another 11 yards and the field is littered with yellow, again. Two false starts and an illegal motion on the Hornets. In spite of the penalty yardage, the Hornets pick up the 48 yards and score once again. It's now 40 to 13. And not in the Eagles favor. The clock winds down as the Eagles are moving downfield and the gun sounds. The Calipatria Hornets 40; the Julian Eagles 13. What did we learn about our football team tonight? We have 2 returning starting seniors and 4 starting returning juniors. We have a new running back with a good burst of speed and change of direction. We have an O line that will mature and be a force. We have younger players that can and will make an impact as the season progresses. Will we smash teams as we have in the past? Probably not. We have a young team that will mature and play some good football. And some not so good football. But they will be entertaining. Losing a football game and living in Julian is still better than winning a football game ad living in Calipatria. Or anywhere else, for that matter. This week we will talk about how to protect your finances, your family, and yourself. Organizing your finances means knowing where important " documents are, having an estate plan for your loved ones, and knowing how to protect your assets from over- taxation, litigation, and theft. Did you know that most people do not have a living trust, a will and power of attorney over their financial and medical matters? When we do this we are leaving our families unprotected in the case something happens to us. I highly recommend you to talk to family members now to decide how to handle your financial and medical affairs should you become incapable of making your own decisions. The last thing you want is to have state and federal employees making decisions about your finances. The last thing anyone wants is to have their family go through probate courts because they did not have a will or trust, this can be extremely expensive and extremely emotional for your family members. Recently I was talking with a gentleman who had been in a automobile accident and doctors did not think he was going to make it. He was not married and did not have a will or trust, nor did he have a power of attorney over his medical and financial matters. Long story short, the state stepped in and stated making financial and medical decisions for him, even though he had a friend who knew exactly what he wanted done, but VoIcan Mountain Land and Cabin - Julian . By the time Frank was able to start making those decisions again for himself, he had lost a lot of his financial wealth due to others who did not know him making decisions for him, including the cost the state charged him for their services. Great news he is well on his way back to where he was both financially and health wise. This is something everyone needs to do, not just "wealthy" people. You don't need to be rich to become ill or injured, nor do you need to be wealthy to provide for and protect your family's financial affairs. Plan while you can. It's not enough to simply want to do the right thing; you need to make sure it happens. Turn your good intentions into good planning and security for your family. Next we will talk about protecting yourself. Did you know that identity theft is the fastest growing crime in the country? Did you know that someone's identity is stolen every 3 seconds, and that it can be misused up to 30 times? A stolen identity can cost years of time and thousands of dollars to restore. His wife had her person stolen while out shopping, and before she could start making phone calls to close all the credit cards out, they had gotten $800 out of his account; they bought gift cards at a large discount store that does not check id. They got his social security card and all of her personal identity as well. I immediately told him to get identity theft protection, as this would give him protection and alert him if someone tried to open accounts in his or her name. Last week he called to state that someone tried to get a credit card in his name, they were denied because of the freeze and alert that had been put on his credit. He has not yet been able to get his $800 back from the bank, but had he gotten identity theft protection before this happened, he would have gotten his $800 back from the bank as well.
