September 11, 2013 , Cindy Brook New Visitors A pair of purple finches came to my tray feeder to gobble up black oil sunflower seed. The male was beautiful with his red head, face and breast. They stayed for a couple of hours at dusk and ecen took time out from feeding to sing in a tree. Very nice. E-il: birdiagbitscp.com FISHING REPORT Howdy! From Lake Cuyamaca "Dusty Britches" here along with "Skid Mark", "Cuss Cussler", "Wo-B-Gone", and "Wet Sox". The weather has been a factor here of late as the monsoonal flow from the south is being spun into our area by a high pressure larger than the size of Texas keeps the temperatures up as well as the humidity. Warmer air clashing with cooler air makes things pretty unstable, then lightning and thunder seem to follow.., for the last week its been like cl[ockwork for a mid-afternoon shower (or hail). Last Tuesday "Skid 'Mark" and I were checking out the new digital cameras we got fom Office Depot When a bolt o/lightning struck just a few yards away from the entrance to "Chambers Park". We thanked our lucky stars (Skid Mark 'changed her pants) and continued on with business as usual. While leaving the "Chambers Park" hinterland I looked down the highway to see pine bark blown all over the road, then I looked up at a pine tree on the north side of the roadway which had been Split from top to bottoml The split is about 2 inches wide, so, later I saw some CaI-Trans guys and took them over to check it out. They tagged the tree and are going to have their tree folks come and look at it for possible removal. The whole situation was different in that all the cloud covering was all out toward the desert.., it was just an errant lightning strike. The following day, same time, same thing, but this time we had marble sized hail.., then, again the next following day. It's kinda like the eastern sierra in late summer, we just don't get that sort of stuff here too often. The fish coming out are the smaller State Stockers, although we haven't seen too many of the Jess Ranch trout plant come out yet. With weather predictions of a slow cooling pattern over the next week, tha fishin should be pickin up. Remember... 3 weeks time til the Orville P.
