-September 19, 2012 Auction And Pa Save the dates! FOJL(Friend of the Julian Library) will launch its Inaugural Online Auction on October 10th! The online auction will run from October 10th through November 10th. The Party will be November 3rd, 6-9 p.m., at the library, with entertainment by the Peter Sprague Quartet, including Leonard Patton on vocals, Peter Sprague, Tripp Sprague, and Bob Magnusson, and food served by Jeremy's on the Hill and Candied Apple. Why are we doing this? The Auction is for fundraising, pure and simple. As we are sure everyone reading this knows, the economy has been less than stellar over the past few years. Along with the usual economic problems that befall us all, your local library is feeling the pinch as well. As the state and county suffer, so does the amount of funding that your library gets for book, DVD, and magazine purchases. Five years ago the county had a $12.5 million budget for purchasing materials for 33 branches, and today that budget is $750,000. FOJL sponsors Music on the rty For Friends Of Mountain (MoM), programs and lectures, and book and DVD purchases. Some of the funding comes through membership dues and the rest through bookstore sales, but it's not enough. In order to continue these programs ~nd purchases, FOJL needs to increase its funding stream which it will do via this inaugural online auction. Not sure how an online auction works? It's easy. The auction website will walk you through the process, or you can contact us at fojlfundraising@ You can reach the auction website by going to www.friendsofthejulianlibrary. com and clicking on the links to The Auction. There will also be computers and helpers at The Party for anyone needing assistance in placing a bid on an item. There are currently 23 items available to bid on, but to entice you to visit the auction site frequently, we will be adding new items throughout September and October! Think about what Julian would be like with reduced library presence. Think about not having Accepted Here Julian Library lectures, MoM, educational programs, and fewer new books and DVDs. In fact, submit your thoughts on what the library means to you and to Julian (250 words or less, mail to FOJL, PO Box 815, Julian. CA 92036, or email to www.fojlboard@ ) and one entry will be selected by random drawing to receive two free tickets to The Party. Additionally, we will publish some entries on our website for everyone to read. So why The Party? Well, it's a celebration of your support by being an FOJL member, making donations, and making purchases at the bookstore. Tickets will be sold for $40 each and attendance is limited. The ticket price will include your FOJL membership dues for 2013. So, if you feel as we do, that the library is one of the most important community 'properties' that we have, please visit our website www.friendsofthejulianlibrary. com and click through the links to The Auction and see what might spark your interest. The primary purpose of the meeting is to provide an opportunity for the general punic to voice their hopes and concerns about the future of this special park. In addition, CSP staff will introduce the general plan process, as well as summarize natural and cultural data gained through a resource inventory of the park. The General Plan Team is comprised of dedicated CSP staff such as landscape architects, environmentalscientists, historians, archaeologists, interpreters, rangers and maintenance staff who will be present to gather input regarding park issues of interest to you. The Team encourages you to further participate in the general plan process by attending future public workshops, visiting the project webpage, and emailing any additional ideas and comments to the general plan team. A General Plan is mandated for all state park units by the California Public Resources Code. The plan becomes the primary management document for a unit of the State Park System, establishing its purpose and management direction for the future. The plan does not provide specific designs or locations of facilities but does provide a vision for the park and guidelines for park use, management and development.
