Local Banking Community Banking Rabobank Letter to the Editor: We in Julian rely on the yearly Orange Book for most of our "phone book" information. For the past two years, the Orange Book publishers have not sent a card in the mail for us to complete and return if we want to be listed in the Orange Book. Instead, the card [on heavy stock paper] is inside the Orange Book, and each of us must tear it out, fill it out, and return it to the publishers. This year, the card is before Page 25, after some information about Julian and those darling pictures drawn by our elementary school kids. This was truly a community event that included the Julian Chamber, Julian Merchants Association, Julian Lions Club and Julian CERT (community emergency response team). As in any first time event, the unknowns are a bit overwhelming. Are the tickets prices appropriate for the venue, can we sell enough tickets to cover the cost of the bands and sound system and the big one, will the weather be on our side. The answer was "YES" to all the above. The generous donations of the local merchants for the raffle helped CERT raise over $350 to be used for training and equipment. The Merchants Association provided a first class printed program for the attendees in addition to the Julian News giving us front page coverage the week of the event. The Menghini Winery in partnership with the Julian Chamber provided the beer, wine and the facilities for the event and the Julian Lions Club provided a verity of freshly grilled food to the attendees. On the first year, not loosing money is a success and unless an unpaid invoice appears after this report, we broke even and had a great time to boot. We thank all the merchants and people that helped us put on this event and look forward to next years Julian Music Festival. Terry Cox ASSETs after school Teen Center will be offering free CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) training to all JUHS students every Monday and Tuesday, 2:30-4:00 p.m. starting October 1st. TEEN CERT Program The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has identified schools as part of the country's critical infrastructure Limited effort has focused on training staff and students in emergency response to incidents occurring in the school Little attention has been given to involving teens in emergency preparedness and response The purpose of the TEEN CERT program is to ensure students have the skills needed to protect themselves, and assist others, in the event of an emergency. The CERT curriculum consists of 9 units and covers disaster preparedness, first aid, fire safety, and light search and rescue. The program culminates with a mock disaster drill. _ , _JJ Jllm MAILED 52 WEEKS - $40.00 , First Class Delivery - $120.00 Mall Subscription To: Julian News P.O.Box 639 Julian, CA 92036-0639 [PLEASE PRINT] NAME: Contacting The lulian News ADDRESS: City State TELEPHONE: ( . ) VISA. 17 MASTERCARD [ CREDIT CARD NUMBER: EXPIRATION DATE: PAYMENT METHOD CHECK [] MONEY ORDER [] Zip +4 CASH [] SIGN11.1RE: For information, call (760) 765-2231 ; TIa E 17F5 LF3 I'T .
