Gregory Page is a product of his own imagination. He was born in London, England on Easter Sunday in 1963 to Armenian and Irish parents who met while they were on tour with their bands en route to the Middle East. The boy showed little interest in academic or business studies and was always fascinated listening to 78 rpm records on his grandfather's phonograph. Upon escaping to America he began a series of odd jobs, namely as a cab driver and cook he also began tirelessly writing and recording his own brand of music. It's hardly an exaggeration to observe that the voice and music of AI Bowlly had a definite effect on Page's career. Mr. Gregory Page's new self-released album "Once & For All" is a tip of the hat to AI and the Sweet Jazz from another era. Recorded by his Iongtime friend Jason Mraz, "Live" April 5th 2010 the new album features some of San Diego's finest Jazz Musicians. There is an indescribable sense when listening to his music that you have uncovered a secret. Like the music of AI Bowlly, Louis Armstrong, Harold Arlen & Cole Porter, Page is not inspired by American music he is American Music. The show begins at 6pm. Come early for a seat as it is possible that the show will be in the RED BARN if the weather begins to turn chilly. Sara Petite Saturday In Wynola Sara Petite will perform at the same venue on Saturday night, October 2. She is a modern-day June Carter with the lyrical sense of Dolly Parton. With strong roots in classic country, bluegrass and classic rock, she falls firmly under the genre of Americana. Hopefully she will bring a Tiger Mountain boy 'er two with her to join in the country good time. Here is a wonderful revie/ of her most recent CD... Sara Petite's voice is classic country The songs themselves, a,I written by Petite except for one co-write and a Harlan Howard cover, remind us of the best of the best stuff that Chip Taylor wrote for his collaborations with Carrie Rodriguez a few years back. But it's more than that. The songs themselves run the gamut from bluegrass ("Bootleggers") to singer/songwriter ("Souvenirs", not the Prine/Goodman song) to straight country/honky-tank ("Doghouse Rose", "Baby Let Me In") and even a little pop. It all begins at 6pm. The Jesuit order played an important role in the Counter- Reformation and eventually succeeded in converting millions around the world to Catholicism. On October 2, 1780, 31-year-old British Major John Andre is hanged as a spy by U.S. military forces. When Andre, an accomplice of Benedict Arnold, was captured on September 23, incriminating papers were found in his boot. The papers revealed that U.S. General Benedict Arnold, commander of West Point, had offered to surrender the strategic Hudson River fort to the British for a bribe of 20,000 pounds. It had a 22 horsepower, four-cylinder engine, could go as fast as 40 mph and could run on gasoline or hemp-based fuel. On September 28, 1941, the Boston Red Sox's Ted Williams plays a double-header against the Philadelphia Athletics on the last day of the regular season and gets six hits in eight trips to the plate, boosting his batting average to .406. On September 30, 1954, the USS Nautilus, the world's first nuclear submarine, is commissioned by the U.S. Navy. It first ran under nuclear power on the morning of Jan. 17, 1955. The Nautilus could remain submerged for almost unlimited periods because its atomic engine needed no air and only a very small quantity of nuclear fuel. On September 29, 1988, Stacy Allison of Portland, Ore., becomes the first American woman to reach the summit of Mount Everest, which at 29,035 feet above sea level is the highest point on earth. Simpson is acquitted of the brutal 1994 double murder of his estranged wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend Ronald Goldman. A majority of African Americans believed Simpson to be innocent of the crime, while white America was confident of his guilt.
