I'm including EMT's and paramedics, deputies and firefighters who are "just doing their jobs", whether they are paid public employees or Julian volunteers. All of us have seen our public safety people doing what they do, whether it's fighting fires, dealing with a horrific wreck on the highway, patrolling our roads, directing traffic...or even being on the wrong end of a traffic ticket. I was returning home today from seeing Toni and Mike Thank You Again - We have had two fires this summer on or very near our property, one caused by lightning and one by a motorcycle crash. Thanks to the quick response of the volunteers, local, state, and federal fire departments neither were a catastrophe. The helicopter and bomber support on the Farmer road fire kept the flames from getting out of control and the ground crew spent nights and days keeping the hot spots from starting another fire We also would like to thank friends and neighbors that called to check on us, and offer and give help during the nerve racking period of worrying about our home and property. Julian has its share of disasters but this community is always there to give comfort and assistance. Thank you everyone. Pat and Gretchen Brown I just want to say thank you to Hillside Church for putting on the Willy Billy on the Hilly today at Jess Martin Park. I had a great time especially watching the skateboarders and the BMX bikers doing all the good tricks. Menghini, With sbme photos .... t~i~'dSiall9 wafit to say~(h~k to add to a story I wrote for the you to the skateboarders for Julian News. Coming up Farmer Road toward town, I saw a wrecked motorcycle and flames heading up the hill. The rider was shaken up and trying to call 911, unsuccessfully; I frantically got through to ,dispatch with my cellphone. Then we watched as flames spread from maybe 1000 square feet to an acre and more. A large pine tree went whooooosh, and the gas tank exploded on the bike. Never have I felt so helpless in my life. Moments later, the ambulance pulled up first, they immediately assessed the condition of Paul, the motorcycle rider. Seconds later, sheriff's deputies and firefighters appeared. Fire hoses were deployed, the road was blockaded, the firefighters started up the hill. Everyone was doing what they train so hard to do. At that point, a private citizen gwmg me and some other kids brand new skateboards, stickers, T-shirts, and Tech-Decks. The neatest thing is that everything was free and very entertaining! I hope you do it again next yead[ Thank You! Will Hatch, Age 12 It's Melodrama time again! Do you know that the Julian Melodrama has been continuously presented during Apple Days for 56 years now? But who puts it on and where does the money go? The Melodrama has always been the major fund raising event of the Julian Triangle Club, a women's community service group which began in 1942, 70 years ago, this year! In compliance with the Club's By-Laws, the majority of the like me is in the way, so, after money "shall go to Academic checking with a deputy, checking Scholarships for Julian residents on Paul's condition again, I who are graduating seniors" but left the area Less than 20 minutes had gone by since I had encountered the scene. Driving home to Whispering Pines, I saw the Cal Fire planes in the air already. A couple of hours later it was mostly out, limited to 15 acres as I write this six hours later. Please remember to thank our public safety folks anytime you can. Every single day they answer the call, every single day could be the day that they risk their lives for us. Ed Glass we use some of the money to fund other Julian youth programs, individua students and youth groups in need. Plus we sponsor a children's Christmas party at Town Hall and a graduation party for the scholarship recipients. We give some money to the 4th of July parade and we are members of the Chamber of Commerce as well as the Julian Merchants Association. We hope our Melodrama brings lots of business to the Julian merchants. As almost all service groups, continued on page 14 ~1~~ : MAILED52WEE~S~0.00 ! a-~lCllml~ ~,-,c'~ss~'~ s~ooo I Mail Subscription To: Julian News P.O.Box 639 Julian, CA 92036-0639 [PLEASE PRIN'rJ , ADDRESS:__ ~ ~ / I TELEPHONE: ( -. __) "-- -- I PAYMENT METHOD V.SA 13 c. c. 1:3 .ON O,O .l:l CAS.
