Eagles Football continued from page 1 beautiful, arching pass to Cole at the Eagles 35. Cole rips up the home sidelines, bound for glory and gets tripped up at the Braves 35. Before Cole made his second bounce, the ball squirts out and Sherman recovers. The ground cannot cause a fumble. Look it up. However, if the side judge doesn't see the first bounce, the rule doesn't apply. Everyone else on the field and in the stands saw what happened, but it was his call and he made it. Perhaps with his eyes closed, but that was 49. his story and he was sticking to it. Or maybe he was calling the hold on Sherman before the pick and threw his blue beanbag instead of his yellow I ankie. There were two fouls, the hold, which was waved off and a dead ball unsportsmanlike behavior, which was a 15-yard penalty from the spot of the foul. Karma! The Braves ball, 2nd and 25 from their own 30. The best Sherman could do only brought them 14 :yards up the field. Punting time Sherman. Cole picked up Sherman's dead duck punt at his own 30 and scrambled to the Braves' 26 ' before he was brought down. Clint picked up 16 yards and a first down on his first touch of the possession, which he followed up with a 9-yard gain and finished off the drive with remaining 1 yard into the endzone for Julian's third . score of the afternoon. Brian's PAT flew Iowand true. With 8:40 ' left in the half it's Sherman Indian ' School 0, Julian21. , Brian's kick sails to the Braves . 15, but the returner is stopped aftera paltry 9-yard pick-up. First and ten from the Braves' 24 with 8:40 left. 8 minutes is a long time on the clock. The Braves pick Up a quick first on the legs of WR Aguilar and are faced with a 3rd and 2 when Kelten and ; Darren Duffy meet Aguilar on the line of scrimmage for no gain. ' Looks like the Eagles will get the 'ball for one more possession. Braves' Coach Manzo has other i ideas as he calls a Wildcat :from his playbook. The Braves RB gets a direct snap and gets enough of an opening to pick up Tony Moniz dives for the end zone 4 yards. 1st and 10 from Julian's Oh, did I mention that the offensive line for the Braves averages 290 Ibs per man with 3 years of experience and our Eagles defensive line averages 180 Ibs per man with less than a years experience? Coach Cranfield and Coach White, the Senior, have the young men playing ata high level. Their grasp of the fundamentals that they constantly drill on throughout the week is paying off. Our smaller, quicker defenders are running circles around the Braves behemoths and only giving up a yard or so at a time. Sherman picks up 2 more first downs over the next 9 plays as the sun begins its' post-Equinox dive into the ocean and the half expires with Sherman's incompletion at the Ea ]les 14. Ball control is great, but ya gotta score. There is no joy on the Sherman sidelines. During the half time, the school saluted the hardworking Eagles staff and teachers. Of note, Martha Masch was singled out and congratulated for her 40 years with our Eagles. Thank you Mrs. Masch! Now back to our show. Your Eagles kick off to open the second half and Brian's kick hops, skips and jumps through the Braves and skitters out of the endzone. First and 10 Braves, at their own 20. The Braves' second half opens rather ominously with a self-recovered fumble for a 4-yard loss. Their fifth pass attempt of the game plinks harmlessly to the ground and brings up a 4th and 12 from their own 18-yard line. The Braves 4th down punts zooms like a lead balloon for a whole 7 yards before it goes out of bounds at Sherman's 26. 1:30 off the clock in the 3rd quarter and your Eagles are flocked at the Braves' 26. The O line gets a little sloppy and gets flagged on an offside's call. Come on boys, you are supposed to know the count! 1st and 15 from the 31. Hunter flicks a quickie to an elevated Tah for 17 yards but a phantom holding call moves the ball back 10 yards from the spot of the foul. 2nd down and 7 to go from the Braves' 31. Clint is back in and picks up 28 for a 1st and goal from the 3. He makes quick work of the next snap and scores the 4th Eagles TD of the afternoon. Brian's PAT is good, Julian 28, Sherman 0. Brian's kick off settles on the Braves 10 and there is a short return to the 17. Sherman's possession is short, with a holding penalty thrown in and they're punting from their own 9-yard line. And punting away from deep in their own endzone. Sherman's punt goes out at the 24. That's okay, we'll take it. The Eagles line up in a spread formation over the right north hash mark and Cole once again zips around left end for an 11 yard pick up[ and an Eagles 1st down. Tah takes the ball around left end. . There are players scattered all over the field by this time. As Tah is about to get hit at the 5, he pitches back to a trailing Clint who just steps across the goal line for the 5th Eagles TD of the afternoon. Brian nails the PAT. Again. My Eagles 35, their continued on page 11 The "Cowbella Ranch Caf0" is located at 2116 Main Street in the heart of Julian. This turn caf0 has everything you need to succeed!
