Becausb there were so few contestants, the contest turned into a chance for the players to entertain and get stage experience. Maryl did a fine job on her tunes and was greatly relieved when it was over. I remember being a contestant on guitar and once on fiddle back in the mid 70's. It was a big deal to get up there and cope with the nerves of competing and fear of making mistakes.., oh welt, that's how musicians turn into performers! It had been a few years since I attended the annual Lions Clubs fund raising event. Despite the fall chores waiting for me at home, I found myself returning on Sunday and staying until the last notes of Susie Glaze and the Highlonesome band faded into the trees.
