Back in July, a couple building a new home in
the Julian area came into the Museum and
asked who was head of the Historical Society.
I said that I could give them a name and were
they interested in joining. No, they had found
an urn while digging the foundation and
thought that the Historical Society should
have it. I asked if there was a date. Yes, 1937,
so suggested they bnng it to the Museum.
That afternoon, they did; and much to our
surprise, it really was an um -- not Native
American pottery;, and it contained ashes.
The name on the um is "Ellanora Schmid£
with the date "September 29, 1937." The
Museum staff has searched death notices and
records for all San Diego County around that
time with no luck. Jim Mazzone of the
Cemetery Committee has told us that we may
lay Ellanora to rest there, but this article may
help to find a relative or someone who can
help reach a relative. If you can be of help,
please call the Museum at (760) 765-0227.
