We didn't see any burritos but it's a keeper. Super Cocina, located on a slightly seedy section of University Avenue, isn't the upscale trendy site would expect Bon Appetit to feature but it does Really Good Eats. Cafeteria style, the main lunch plate is two dishes chosen from four on offer plus beans/rice/ tortillas for $7.69 and what dishes! To aid selection, the customer is offered a taste of each guisado or "stew" but it didn't help much. Everything was great. We finally zeroed in, after a futile disquisition on the need for a wide selection on the one hand and obstinate refusal on the other, and chose chicken with pipian/sesame seed/chili sauce and pork with greens. The latter was excellent but the chicken was so good that we gnawed the bones and hardly cared if anyone saw us surreptitiously lickingour plates. The beans, whole, were flavorful and the tortillas homemade. We skipped the rice and can't comment. Emerqency Preparedness s a Top Priority Fernando Sanchez, the owner of Super Cocina, is from Mexico City and collects recipes from the entire country. He told us the Mole recipe, for example, is 100 years old, real heritage cooking. He described a number of the other dishes--there are four at any given time but they change through the day--each of which sounded good enough for a special trip. Epazote, pipian, Yerba Santa, other herbs and spices--Diane Kennedy would approve. Also on offer are standard dishes and a special breakfast menu. This is Mexican cooking we seldom get along the border. Run, Don't Walk to this one. Super Cocina 3721 University Av.
