Julian Youth Soccer Kickin' Up Excitement It's Not Just About Winning Games A Coach's Thouahfs by Marisa MeFedries photos by Jeff White US Postal Service Rural Mail Carrier Frequently I like to hike in Palm Canyon, down in Borrego. A couple of weeks ago I was lucky enough to catch these Big Horn Sheep up close and personal directly across from the creek. I have hiked here many times and have not seen these guys so close. I almost walked into one that was in the creek! Pretty exciting and I love this hike! We are more than half-way through the AYSO season as there are only a few more games left. Players that struggled to dribble at the beginning, are now flying down the field with the ball! Players that seemed so timid in August, now have fire in their eyes and attack with grit! Players that started by saying '1 can't', now know that they CAN! Soccer is a sport of intense physical combat, practiced skill, mental awareness, and high emotion! Our players amaze me at their willingness to give everything they have inside them until the very last whistle blows.., win or lose! Each week they come to learn at practice, then they come to the game with eagerness! They have learned to work with their teammates and for their team, but they have also become more aware of their individual battles. I can't help but reflect on my own life as I watch them struggle and succeed on the pitch, and I am left with these thoughts: no matter how tired I am, I can still try harder...I should not let one set back steal my hope.., each event makes me better and stronger.... I can do things I don't think that I am capable of... and I can leave each day with my head held high and a smile on my face! Maria Hatch gives it her all against Ian Alexander.
