Supporting the school has been a primary focus in my life. I have participated in all aspects of the school from events to supporting the sports teams. I am very familiar with the need for parent support to improve the quality of education and enrichment for our students. I feel it is my responsibility to advocate for our children and our entire educational community• Having a child who was part of the special education services offered at our high school, I am also very familiar with these procedures. Having been a foster parent, I am aware of the broad range of needs that come with a student body, large or small. A school must be focused on the needs of its entire student body. In a community such as ours, we have the luxury of individual attention. It is this knowledge of diversity and the need for unity that I will bring to the school board. I will serve the school board with experience and with an ear toward the community and for the operating rules of the board. I am by trade, a construction superintendent. This gives me great insight into the issues facing our school and the condemned building that many parents are concerned about reestablishing for the benefit of all students. It is my goal to work with a school board that approaches each decision with an open mind. I will work to make strategic choices for the well- being of the district. Being a community-minded individual, I will work to listen and act in the best interest of our educational community for strength, growth and achievement. Dennis Cantor I am the proud father of a third and fifth grader at Julian Elementary, so I have a personal interest in the future of education at Julian Union High School. My daughters and their friends are the reason I have campaigned to help pass Proposition L. Once we pass Prop L, I will bring my strong construction experience to the high school board as we rebuild the science building. I understand teaching having earned a teaching credential from the University of California and as a former college instructor. I am a native Sa0 Diegan and long-time Julian resident. My involvement with education and children in Julian includes: Chairperson of Jess Martin Park Advisory Committee, past presiont of the Julian Community Preschool Board and former AYSO soccer commissioner. My wife and I helped bring dance, gymnastic and martial arts programs to Julian. My goal is to support our dedicated and talented school personnel by seeking outside funding to help pay for education at the high school. To seek outside funds, I will work to create a grant-writing program at the high school modeled after the successful Pathways program at the elementary school. I will also look for ways for the high school to take advantage of the wealth of talent and experience we have in Julian. My dream for the children of Julian is a world- class education that combines the traditions and ethics of our mountain community with the technology of our global economy. I am dedicated to the best education possible for my two girls and all the children of Julian. Thank you for your time and hopefully your vote• Katy Moretti My name is Katy Moretti. I am 50 years old and a lifelong resident of this area, having grown up in Santa Ysabel and then moving to Julian. I am a 1978 graduate of Julian High School. I am a second generation graduate, my father, Marco Moretti graduated in 1943. I have been an Escrow Officer for 27 years. I currently own Eagle Peak Escrow, Inc., I am going into my 20th year of business. Being a business owner during these economic times is challenging. There are many tough decisions to be made. Knowing when and how to make those tough decisions is one reason my business thrives today. A High School education is extremely important. Although, we would like to think that every student will go on to college, the reality is for many the education they receive in High School will be their higher education. The only diploma I have, is from Julian High School• I have taken college courses, but did not graduate. My education at Julian High School help prepare me to be a successful business owner. This community is fortunate to have a High School that prepares students to be successful should they pursue college or not. I would like to serve on the Board to give back to the school, to help insure this school will be here for future generations. A business has two folds, they day to day functions and the management• The School Board ability to manage a school is as important as the day to day functions of educating our children. What I would like to bring to the Board is my experience of being a business owner and employer, that not only manages my business but works the day to day functions. I have been asked where I stand on the Bond. I believe the Bond will be the best solution for returning that condemned portion of the school to a usable area in a timely matter. Should this bond not pass, it very well be another decade or longer before a solution is found• Being an Escrow Officer has given me 27 years of experience in the fiduciary duties involved in being responsible for the public's money in Trust Fund accounts in escrow. If elected, I will bring that experience to the Board. I would be honored to serve on the Julian High School Board• I am a clear independent thinker. I will be honest, hard working and responsible• Please get out and vote on election day. Tom Skibinski My name is Tom Skibinski and I have been in Julian for several years now, with my wife Rebecca Skibinski and my four children Catherine (10), Makayta (8), Lillian(5) and Tanner (2). Several months ago I decided to run for one of the open seats on the Julian Union High School Board. This decision did not come lightly, but I felt lead or maybe even convinced to run. I am lead by the type of person I am and strive for a successful community• I also feel you have no reason to complain about the community you live in unless you are involved in some way or another. I started to coach Baseball and Soccer here in Julian, when my oldest showed an interest and then when the situation presented itself, I decided to run for the vacant seat as the President of the Julian PONY Baseball, now Julian Youth Baseball, Inc. and have enjoyed every minute since• Due to my involvement with the Baseball League the situation presented itself to sit on the board for the Jess Martin Park Advisory Committee, I was once again honored and proud to be able to serve our community. With three children now in the Elementary School I am looking to their future in the High School. When I moved my family up here to Julian we decided to raise our family in a small town allowing our children to attend a smaller school with small classes and more one on one education and attention• These small schools, classes and Districts provide great atmospheres for education, and have over the years, but they also present unique challenges that the District and Staff must address. Challenges that I am more than willing to face head on. We have great schools hear in Julian and I look forward to working with the District and the staff at the High School and building upon the foundation we currently have. What do I bring to the table you ask? Well the fact that I have four children in the school system, or soon to be in the system, that my wife and I will be raising in this community, so my interest in this community is well vested• I have a strong concern for Leadership and the longevity of the goals for educating our children. As an instructor at the San Diego chapter of ABC (Associated Builders and Contractors), I know that vocations are vital to our economy as well as a college education. As President of Julian Youth Baseball, I have been developing a program from Tee-Ball to Varsity. My passion for sports, teamwork, and social skills bring many things to the table for our kids. These will assist in continuing to grow the sports program at the High School• More importantly what you see is what you get; I love this community and strive to for its success, and the success of the kids in this community.
