Tony scored after a 25-yard plus romp through Rams territory. Brian Garcia's extra point split the uprights and Julian is now in the lead 7 to 6. The Rams deep returner scooped up Brian's rambling kickoff near Borrego's 20 and got a decent return back to their 42. The Rams went to the air and completed an 8-yard pass, but it was called back with a holding penalty. First and 18 from the Ram's 33. Another flurry of flags as the Rams get caught offsides and another 5 yards gets marched off...in the wrong direction for the home team. The Rams pick up a quick 6 yards with Sophomore LB Kellen Regalado tripping him up. Borrego picked up tw6 quick first downs on a lightning 21-yard run and a little 12-yard dink pass .and were far into Eagles territory. Their next three plays went nowhere and the Rams tried to be tricky on fourth down, but the center snapped an airball way over the QB's head and the Eagles pounced on ball at Borrego's 40. Good field position Eagles!! Hunter's first pass of the possession went nowhere and he was dumped for a 5-yard loss on the next snap. Hunter got off a quick pass to Tony for 14 yards, just a skinny little 3 feet away from an Eagles first down. Hunter took the ball and went over center with the entire team pushing and shoving in a proper rugby scrum and picked up 2 yards. Eagles first down at the 29. Hunter's next pass to Tony clanked to the ground and Ronnie picked up just short of 5 yards on his next scramble. An encroachment call on the Rams defense and the Eagles have a 3rd and less than 1 yard at the Rams 20. HB Kellen Regalado ran a little flare out of the Eagles backfield and Hunter caught him with a well-placed pass as Kellen blasted into the Rams' endzone. Touchdown Julian. Garcia's kick split the uprights and with 1!49 left in the first quarter our Eagles are up 14 to Borrego's 6. Brian's kick skittered through Borrego's endzone and the Rams started their drive from their own 20. Kellen wrapped up the Rams runner for a 1 yard loss and to add insult to injury, the Rams where offside's. The Eagles declined the penalty. The Rams completed a quick pass for 7 yards and a Rams RB picked up 4 yards for a Rams first down. During the tackle, Ronnie Jones came up from his safety position to add to the tackle but had his left ankle rolled up on and had to leave the game, The Rams were flagged again for an offside's call as the first quarter ended. At the end of 12. Julian 14, Borrego Springs 6. The Rams opened the second quarter with an incomplete pass, but an Eagles' defender tackled the Rams QB after the pass and was flagged for roughing the passer. 15 yards and a first down, Borrego. Energized by the penalty, the Rams covered 49 yards with two passes and first downs and were flocked at the Eagles 9. The Rams RB set the Eagles back on their heels, blasting 9 yards up the middle for the second Borrego score. Their extra point try was no good and the score is now Julian 14, Borrego 12. The Rams got fancy and tried an onsides kick. Your eagles would have none of that and recovered the ball at their own 34. Kellen picked up a quick 3 yards and a Hunter to Tah pass was good for another 3. Unfortunately, someone on the Eagles O line jumped offsides and cost the Eagles 5 yards. An incomplete pass followed. During Brian's punt attempt an illegal block was called on the Eagles and his rekick was under heavy pressure from the Eagles 5 yard line. Brian's kick went out of bounds at Borrego's 45. The Rams went 3 and out and their punt ended up at the Eagles 18. There are times when you just gotta go with what you have. In this case, Senior OL/DL Alex Casas reported in as a running back when Coach White called in the Jumbo Package. By the time the huddle and assignment • was completed, the Eagles were flagged for delay of game and lost the down and 5 yards. Hunter completed a quick pass to Tony for 4 yards and the Eagles were forced to punt. The Rams could do little better. They picked up a quick first down but were flagged for illegal motion in the backfield. The call must have rocked the Rams because they finished their possession with a 4 and out. Julian took over with 36 seconds left in the half and took a knee after 2 incomplete passes. At the half, it's the Julian Eagles 14, the Borrego Springs Rams 12. The second half opened with the sun inching closer to the granite crags west of Borrego and Jr. OL/LB/RB Alex Duey grabbing up the Rams onsides kick at midfield. Alex, in the Jumbo Package, • got nailed for a 1-yard loss. Sr. WR/SS Tah "Soaring Eagle" Beresford got back to the line of scrimmage on an end around and McConnell's pass to Jr. WR Cole Southcott was incomplete. Brian's punt went to the Rams 28. Borrego's RB picked up a quick 3 yards but an errant pass fluttered to the ground on their next play from scrimmage. The Rams picked up the first down on a 7-yard run, but the HB lost and recovered his own fumble after the first down. The Rams second down pass ,ent kerflooey and on third down their rush went 8 yards. With a 4th and 3, the Rams tried a fake punt and picked up about 10 yards. That was all for naught as they were flagged for holding. The Rams punt went to Cole at his own 30 and he fought his way up field for a 36 yard return to the Rams' 34. Hunter got a quick pass of to Moniz for 4, but Cole brought his route up short and missed a sure touchdown with an incompletion from Hunter. Hunter's next pass was plucked by a Rams defender who was brought down immediately. The Rams QB must have gotten a case of happy fingers and dropped the snap from center. Which the Eagles gleefully pounced on at the Rams 9. Alex battered his way for 2 yards on the Eagles first down and Brian Garcia, in for the injured Ronnie Jones got bottled up in the backfield but managed to get to the line of scrimmage for no gain. As the sun set in Borrego and the lights came on, Cole cut inside as Hunter's pass went outside. Somebody got a hand on Brian's FG attempt and knocked the ball wide right. No points for the Eagles. Bummer. Then Rams took over at the 20 and picked up a first down on an 11-yard RB dash. Another flag for a false start on Borrego, but they pick up another 17 yards on the following down. They pick up another 27 yards on two rushes and a wild 41-yard pass c6mpletion and run put them in the lead. Their two-poi.nt conversion" failed, but they're up by 4. Borrego 18, Julian 14. With 2:24 left in the 3rd quarter, the Rams get tricky and try another onsides kick. Hunter recovered their try at the Eagles 49. Not a bad starting position. Hunter, under pressure let's a pass fly that gets picked off by the Rams and returned to the Eagles 26. Uh oh, this isn't looking good Eagles' fans! The Rams backfield moves the ball to the Eagles 5 and then gets whacked by another illegal motion penalty. Penalty, minus 5 yards. The Rams HB gets snared in the backfield for another negative 8 yards and loses another 5 yards on a holding penalty. Their next pass nets a minus 2 yards and on third • down, the pass falls incomplete. On a 4th and forever, the Rams try a sneaky sweep around right end but he ends up being ridden out of bounds the entire Eagles defense for no gain. Julian's ball on their own :.',',',35. Alex Duey took the first handoff of thepossession and picked up 5 yards to the 40. Brian got stuffed at the line of scrimmage for no gain, but an encroachment call on Borrego gave the Eagles a first down at the Rams' 46. Alex busts into the line again, but gets stood up and has the ball stripped away. The Rams return the ball to Julian's 9. The Eagles defenders are more than a little miffed on the turn of events and shut the Rams down on their first three plays, the Borrego scores on a quick 16-yard pass.
