In Fresno over the weekend they got to run against the best teams from throughout the state. Julian's team of seven was up against another 23 teams and 184 runners in their quest for higher honors. Even with Julians top three runners finishing within 40 seconds of one another the team just didn't have the depth that others from around the state possessed. Julian's Daniel Smith ran a personal best 17:16 and only seconds off the school record at the meet but could only manage 46th place overall, Joseph Munson and Justin Parr where placed at 76 and 79 with freshman Ben Beatty less than 40 seconds ahead of Dustin Jenson. Derek Rousseau and Michael Hatch filled out the team. The lady Eagles saw any hope for team recognition dashed when one of them could not finish. Katie Newgard placed 143 and Sophomore Charlie Beatty was close behind at 147. Lonna Kelly and McKenna Vandewalle had their own race with Lonna coming in seconds ahead. The teams return to Julian and should be proud of their seasons accomplishments. Next year the girls will return all runners with only Ben Beatty returning for the boys. The crowd packed into Pioneer Park. photo by David Lewis The line for hot cider and sweets was long and constant all afternoon. photo by David Lewis iiiii!iiiiiiiii The Julian Princesses worked the crowd, handing out programs and candy canes. Later acting as Santa's Helpers. (Below) Bette Gorton and Scott Kinney served a Masters of Ceremonies for the afternoons entertainment. Scott also was credited with pulling the show together as the producer for the Merchant's Association. Even with the cool weather and threatening skies (no clouds until 4 oclock). The show went off on time with the tree sparkling in the night sky.
