Patriot Propane has teamed with the San Diego, CA, Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation to raise funds for breast-cancer research, education, screening and treatment. One cent of every gallon of propane pumped by the pink bobtail will be donated by Patriot Propane to the Komen foundation. "We've seen these trucks out there and know that it's a good cause," said Dave Barrett, Owner of Patriot Propane. "Breast cancer is close to many of us in our company; my wife has had it, my mother-in-law had it, a woman in our office is currently going through treatments." Barrett had been considering a pink bobtail for Patriot Propane when he bumped into Nancy Coop, Owner/President of JARCO, Inc., Salem, IL, at a recent National Propane Gas Association meeting. For more than 50 years, JARCQ has been building bobtails for propane- transporting operations. As they chatted, Coop told Barrett that she would be honored for JARCO to design and build his pink bobtail and a deal was struck. "This is the fifth pink bobtail we've done and we've worked with a lot of customers and each one has a terrific story to tell," said Coop. "Dave told me about the members of his family and the employees that have been touched by breast cancer, so right there, I knew it was heart- felt. I'm really proud of the industry to get behind this. It's impressive to think that there's all those donations collected that go back to a good cause. It raises funds and raises awareness, which is the most important thing. The communities accept these trucks really well and think it really helps." The pink trucks are really a win-win situation for the supplier and the Komen foundation. "You don't expect a propane truck to be pink and when you see it, there's sort of an 'a-ha' moment, then you realize why," said Coop. "That's a plus for business, and a plus for the Susan G. Komen foundation." "The truck raises great money for a great cause and it's an attention-getter for our company," added Barrett. "It also lets our residential consumers participate in the program by paying us for their propane with some of that money going to breast-cancer research." Helping to ensure that those propane deliveries are made safely and efficiently is a Blackmer Model TLGLF3C Propane Pump and BV2 Bypass Valve. The TLGLF3C is a 3-inch pump that fits the needs of propane suppliers because they are designed to flange mount directly to a commercial internal control valve in combination with the tank of a bobtail. This direct- mounting eliminates the need for inlet pipes, shut-off valves and external strainers that can restrict flow and cause vaporization. The pumps have an internal relief valve and patented cavitation suppression liners that reduce vibration and wear that can affect performance and shorten pump life. They are also equipped with a double-ended drive shaft for clockwise or counterclockwise rotation. "It's so nice when JARCO, as the builder of the truck, can go to companies like Blackmer and request contributions to this cause, and Blackmer really steps up," said Coop. 'Tm surprised how many people are unaware how men can be affected by this disease. Men live with women, they have mothers and sisters, they have wives and daughters. This is not just a women's disease, it affects all of us." For more information about Blackmer TLGLF3C Propane Pumps, please visit www. For more information about the Susan G.
